Helpful Hints: Reflexive pronouns

Reflexive pronouns (myself, yourself, etc.) are used:

  • a) when the subject and object of the verb are the same person or thing.

I hurt myself playing football last Saturday.

The computer will turns itself off once the updates have been downloaded.

  • b) for emphasis.

They renovated their apartment themselves.

The Queen herself answered the phone.

Common expressions.

Make yourself at home.

Take care of yourself.

Enjoy yourself!

Lunch is ready. Do help yourselves!

Reflexives pronouns are not used with verbs feel, fall asleep, get up, get dressed, have a shower, go to bed
