The Novel
The word novel originally derived from the Latin novus, meaning new.

The first novel, called The Story of Genji, was written in 1007 by a Japanese noblewoman, Murasaki Shikibu.

Johannes Gutenberg is often credited with the invention of the printing press in 1454. However, the Chinese actually printed from movable type in 1040, but later discarded the method.

Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are among the top five best-selling novels of all time.

Many people consider George Eliot’s Middlemarch to be the greatest British novel ever written.
