British Languages

Welsh, Breton and Cornish are Brythonic Celtic languages directly descending from the ancient British language spoken throughout much of Britain before the English language came to dominate. Welsh is spoken natively in Wales, where 20.8% of the population (582,000) speak the language daily. Breton is a Celtic language spoken in Brittany France descended from the Celtic British language brought from Great Britain to Armorica by migrating Britons during the Early Middle Ages. Cornish is historically spoken by the Cornish people and continued to function as a common community language until the late 18th century.
